Beyond our Classrooms

The formal curriculum does not provide young men with all of the skills and qualities they will need for the future.  Our comprehensive co-curricular program nurtures the many different talents of our boys, encouraging them to become well-rounded and assertive young men who reach for their goals with confidence.  Co-curricular activities are often the most enjoyable aspect of school life for boys, and the subject of many fond memories in the future.

Sport

Sport is an integral part of life of the Calrossy Anglican School Secondary Boys on the William Cowper Campus.  Students develop skills across a wide range of sports, participating at whole school, team and individual levels.  An ability to participate, a healthy competitive spirit, and teamwork skills are essential elements in the development of well-balanced young men.  Tthe broad range of team sports offered includes cricket, rugby union, hockey, basketball and touch football.  Additionally, the school’s membership of the Hunter Regional Independent Schools (HRIS) provides pathways for our boys to represent at Combined Independent Schools, NSW, All Schools and Australian levels in 26 sports.

Expeditions

The Expedition Program is founded on the belief that boys grow by experiencing meaningful challenges.  By encountering and overcoming adversity, boys grow in confidence, self-awareness and maturity.  They work together to develop a stronger understanding of their peers and to form constructive relationships.  Each expedition also complements the learning programs implemented throughout the school, enabling boys to use these experiences both as a reference point for their learning.

Music

The use of technology in our music department is prominent - the music room is furnished with modern computers, keyboard lab and a recording studio.  Technology has been integrated into the program to allow students to develop and extend their musical talents.  Using industry standard equipment, students are able to:

* Compose using the latest industry-standard software (Sibelius 3)
* Record compositions and performances to CD
* Experiment with video-editing to create music video clips
* Operate equipment such as sequencers, recording equipment and PA systems.

Private tuition is also available on site for a wide range of instruments, and opportunities for musical contributions are many and varied, and include the annual performing arts evening, local eisteddfods, charity fundraisers and school events.

Cattle Team

The Calrossy Cattle Team allows students to experience a range of practical activities that revolve around the preparation of stud cattle (including females and bulls from our own Shorthorn stud) and steers for shows, including the Sydney Royal Easter Show, the All Breeds Heifer Show in Dubbo and the many local shows in our region.  Our cattle team is highly regarded throughout the stud industry for the high standard of animals they present.  They achieved a world record price for the sale of their first Shorthorn Bull at the National Show and Sale, and have distinguished themselves in both school and open competitions.  Our team are also highly regarded for their level of personal commitment and conduct.
