Our Community
The Calrossy Anglican School Co-educational Primary community is a warm and close-knit one, where mutual support is the key. Parents regularly work with teaching staff to provide opportunities that enhance learning in a range of activities. Parents are warmly welcomed into classrooms to assist with and provide support in all Key Learning Areas. They assist with Literacy and Numeracy groups; provide support in art and craft activities; are welcome to attend weekly assemblies, and support such events as Grandparents' Day, Performing Arts Nights, and School productions. Parents join staff and students on excursions, as well as assisting in classroom programs on a regular basis (as they are able).
The Parents' and Friends' Association meets twice each term. The aims of the association are to raise friends and funds for the school community. The fund raising program includes regular activities such as the annual Dinner Dance and Auction, Trivia Night, Mothers' and Fathers' Day stalls, Refreshment stalls at Athletics, Cross Country and Swimming carnivals, and catering for community functions.
Since the inception of the Parents' and Friends' Association in 1999, $100 000 has been raised for the school. These funds have been used to purchase playground equipment, shade structures, library books, audio visual equipment, 2 upright pianos, assorted musical instruments, electronic keyboards, curriculum specific software, and sporting equipment. Funds have also been used for turfing the oval and landscaping the school grounds.
As part of the total program, all students are involved in supporting those less fortunate than themselves. Students sponsor two Compassion children, with each class responsible for raising funds to support the child for one month each year. Support is also given to other charities throughout the year. These include the Cancer Council, Camp Quality, Red Nose Day, and others.
